Australia’s farmers currently in drought are doing it tough. Many can’t feed their cattle or sheep, many are now facing the fact that they can’t feed their families.
As the drought worsens and no end in sight, the plight of our farmers and their rural communities is becoming desperate. Farm staff have been retrenched, families are being split up with one going to work in major cities, rural businesses are closing due to lack of business. The rural fabric our our country is breaking down.
Unlike previous droughts where farmers had built up equity after good periods, this drought has smashed family savings and now many farms have significant negative equity. Farmers can’t sell because no one wants to buy or pay a price that will clear the farmers debt.
At Buy a Bale, we’re doing something to help like we always do. We’re working to cover these farmers grocery and essentials.
Firstly instead of trucking city purchased groceries and essentials and decimating rural businesses, we’re asking you to donate directly onto our Farmers card. This card in the hands of drought declared farmers allows them to spend donations of money in their rural businesses, thus keeping them afloat. Non means tested this card is making a difference with many buying groceries and clothes for themselves and their children.
Secondly we’re organising the Great Outback BBQ in the month of September where we’re hoping you can hold a BBQ with a bunch of mates and donate funds from the sale of snaggs and drinks to our Feed a a Farmer Campaign
