Thursday 12th 2015
On Thursday, Friday and Saturday Nov 6, 7 and 7 2015, Buy a Bale delivered hay purchased with donations to farmers in the Longreach area. The hay supplier in question has supplied us over 5000 bales in the last 2 years, part of over 150,000 bales Buy a Bale has distributed to farmers across Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia in the last 2 years.
It is our policy as an organisation to supply the best services, support and resources to rural communities and this includes feed.
Sadly we were contacted on the Monday morning Nov 9th after the media were, and advised that the fodder may have caused some sheep to die. We immediately contacted all recipients of the hay.
Some had fed the hay to their cattle and sheep, some were yet to distribute, some hadn’t even collected their hay allocation.
We asked all farmers to consider holding off feeding the animals until such time as we had investigated the situation.
We also advised them of our policy that we would replace the allocation of hay with more hay and all farmers have gratefully accepted this offer.
In a period of 6 hours we sourced and purchased replacement hay from a local Longreach produce store who knows our hay recipients well and who has agreed to supply them with hay when it comes into their store over the coming weeks.
Buy a Bale has also secured a credit against the hay purchased and delivered and will receive further hay for our supplier at the time of their next crop cut.
Buy a Bale is committed to supporting all elements of rural Australia, hay farmers who sell us their hay, truckies who we contract to carry it for us, farmers who need the feed and cash that we supply them through Farmers card and volunteers who we co ordinate to assist in farm maintenance
