During the last week of November 2014, Buy a Bale, Frontier Services and tradies from Sydney, Wollongong and Newcastle boarded the farm rescue bus for a 10.5 hour ride to the Lightning Ridge region of NSW.
This area is currently experiencing one of its worst droughts on record with some properties not having received any substantial falls for over 3 years.
With over 25 tradespeople working across 22 properties all manner of jobs were completed for the farmers. From painting, to new toilets, to fixing tractors and motorbikes and cars and dozers, the tradies had a ball and walked away knowing that their little bit of help made a huge difference to the farmers on the land.
Many of the farmers were skeptical when first asked about participating in the Farm Rescue but soon realised when our volunteers turned up that they were there to make a difference not just to have a holiday.
Firm friendships developed over the course of the week with many of the tradies keeping in contact with those they helped and organising future trips back to the region.
