Rural Aid’s Buy a Bale campaign has reached Cowell, with road trains bringing $50,000 of hay to the area over the weekend.
The Buy a Bale campaign used donations to purchase the hay from farmers in Lock on the Eyre Peninsula.
Rural Aid general manager Wayne Thomson says Rural Aid has committed $1 million to South Australia before Christmas and is aiming to double that figure.
Mr Thomson reported that over $8000 of the donations came from a primary school up in Arnhem Land.
Minister for Primary Industries and Regions Tim Whetstone was at the drop, reminding and informing locals of the services available for those in financial difficulty, and to acknowledge the hardship in the area.
